Russian national teams were banned from leaving the Russian Federation to participate in training camps and competitions after  the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization.

It is reported by Inside the Games with reference to the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation.

Oleg Matytsin, the Minister of Sports of Russia, said that “this decision is dictated by the course towards strengthening the national sports industry and the formation of sports and economic sovereignty.

The media also note that such a decision by the Russian government may be an attempt to prevent the desertion of leading athletes abroad after the announcement of mobilization in the country.

So far, the ban applies only to training camps and competitions, the trip to which was funded by the Ministry of Sports.

Earlier, UNIAN reported that “partial” mobilization has already begun in the Russian men’s football team. Summons for the war with Ukraine were received not by football players or members of the coaching staff of the Russian national team, but by employees of the structure of the RFU and the national team.
