In Kyiv, a car drove into a stop with people: there are dead and injured

In the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv, as a result of a Volkswagen car driving into a public transport stop, there are dead and injured people . This was reported by the Kyiv police communications department.

“According to preliminary information, at about 8:50, the driver of a Volkswagen collided with a shuttle bus at full speed, after which it drove into a bus stop with people. There are dead and injured,” the report said. 

The investigative and operational group of the capital’s traffic accident investigation headquarters, patrol police officers, and doctors are working there, the police say.

The number of victims, circumstances, and mechanism of the traffic accident are being established.

“Unfortunately, two citizens have already died, and there are four injured. One man is in serious condition,” the law enforcement officers added.

Police said the 23-year-old driver has already been detained. 

They also emphasized that in the near future, the parliament should consider a bill to increase responsibility for systematically exceeding the speed limit. The National Police hopes that the people’s deputies of Ukraine will support this initiative.

Updated. As reported by the National Police of Ukraine on Telegram, investigators have informed the 23-year-old driver of a Volkswagen who caused a fatal accident on Chokolivskyi Boulevard of suspicion.

In particular, the actions of the offender are qualified under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of road safety rules or transport operation by persons driving vehicles, which caused the death of several people).

“Investigators also applied to the court with a request to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention to the suspect,” the report says.
