The city of Kurchatov and several neighboring districts of the Kursk region were left without electricity on the evening of August 9 due to an attack by a Ukrainian drone on a transformer substation, said the acting governor of the region, Alexey Smirnov.
“As a result of the fall of debris from a Ukrainian aircraft-type UAV onto a transformer substation in one of the regions, a fire broke out,” the official wrote on his Telegram channel.
In addition to Kurchatov, where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located, there is no power supply in the Kurchatovsky, Oktyabrsky, Bolshesoldatsky, Oboyansky, and Belovsky districts.
The Telegram channel “Typical Kursk” writes that problems with electricity and water supply are also observed in the settlements of Volokno, Voroshnevo and Pryamitsyno.
As reported by the Bloknot publication, citing sources, on the afternoon of August 9, the approaches to the Kursk NPP were blocked. An employee of the plant anonymously told Important Stories that men were brought back to guard the NPP (previously, only female National Guard officers were left there). In addition, according to the journalists’ interlocutor, the management recommended that NPP employees take unpaid leave and evacuate their children. Also, shift workers have been leaving the NPP construction site since August 7, Important Stories writes. On August 9, Rosatom confirmed that it had reduced the number of construction workers at the plant.
The Kursk NPP is one of the three largest in Russia. According to Meduza’s Analysis department, Ukrainian troops are currently about 50 kilometers from the plant, but the scenario in which the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to reach it is very unlikely.

That Ukrainian debris is dangerous. Anyone would think the Ukrainians deliberately allow the orcs to shoot down these drones directly over the target.
