Hungary will not take part in NATO’s “crazy mission” to help Ukraine , Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto said.
In April, NATO allies agreed to start planning long-term military support for Ukraine, creating a fund of 100 billion euros ($107 billion), writes Reuters.
According to the plans, NATO will take over part of the coordination functions of the US-led coalition, known as the Ramstein group (contact group on the defense of Ukraine – ed. note). Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto confirmed that the country’s government had previously opposed the plan.
“Hungary will stay away from the crazy NATO mission, despite the pressure,” he said at an event in London.
The war in Ukraine – Hungary’s position
The Hungarian authorities are constantly trying to block the allocation of aid to Ukraine. In particular, this country previously vetoed 50 billion euros of aid .
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijarto , said that the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine would mean the beginning of the third world war. The alliance can allegedly cross the “red line”.
As the chief diplomat of Hungary stated, European politicians should work to achieve peace, and not look for ways to participate in war.
