The Hungarian National Security Service (KNBSZ) was interested in the location of air defense systems (ADS) and military units on the territory of Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with the Hungarian publication Válasz Online .

According to the head of state, the Hungarian military national security service also tried to find out how the residents of Transcarpathia would react to the presence of Hungarian peacekeepers. He noted that he asked NATO representatives about Hungary’s actions, to which he was told that nothing of the kind had been agreed with Budapest.

“How should we react to this during a war? I’m not saying that Budapest wants something, but if not, then who is it collecting information for? I asked NATO representatives whether they had asked the Hungarians to collect data on such issues. They said no,” Zelensky said.

In addition, the Ukrainian president was asked whether it was possible to improve relations with Hungary after the spy scandal and despite many other disagreements. Zelensky replied that this was possible with mutual respect, but recalled that Budapest had repeatedly tried to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs.

“Let’s put it this way: Budapest tried to interfere in Ukraine’s internal affairs in dozens of different ways… We stopped the illegal issuance of passports in Transcarpathia even before the war. We settled most of the cases quietly, among ourselves. Why did we make the current case public? We have additional photos and videos of various meetings organized by the Hungarian Military National Security Service on the territory of Hungary, which we will also publish if necessary. I don’t want to threaten anyone, but we really have everything. In particular, how the KNBSZ paid its agent. We documented everything. The Hungarian network was created since 2021, and issues of a military nature were raised in 2024-25. The last exchange of information took place on March 25 of this year,” the President of Ukraine shared.

Zelensky was also outraged that Hungary was looking for vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s border region. He added that the Hungarians also wanted information about where Ukraine had deployed S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems.
