Trump announced this phrase during his election campaign in 2016.

During its presidency of the Council of the European Union, Hungary chose the slogan “Make Europe Great Again”. Thus, the country drew an analogy with former US President Donald Trump , writes Politico .

The publication noted that the former US President plans to return to the White House in the elections, which will take place in the middle of Hungary’s presidency.

“This is a reference to an active presidency. It actually demonstrates the expectation that together we should be stronger than alone, but we should be allowed to be who we are when we come together. It also reflects the idea that Europe is capable of becoming an independent global player in our transforming world,” said Hungarian Minister for EU Affairs János Boka.

At the same time, journalists during a press conference questioned Trump’s recall.

“You don’t get a sense of déjà vu from Trump’s slogan. I don’t know if Donald Trump ever wanted to make Europe great again,” Boca said.

The presidential administration also introduced the Rubik’s Cube as its logo, which Boka described as “the essence of the Hungarian genius.” Hungary will use its presidency to introduce a new competitive, “farmer-oriented” agricultural agreement, as well as to “better protect external borders, manage the root causes of migration and improve more effective return policies,” the minister said.

In addition, Boka added that Hungary will make efforts to move forward the EU enlargement process. He emphasized that “we want to have significant steps in Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine.”

At the same time, Politico noted that there are concerns that Budapest wants to disrupt or slow down the progress of Ukraine’s candidacy, because Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban “tried to undermine relations with Ukraine and sought closer ties with Moscow.”

Hungary’s position on the war in Ukraine

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban criticized Western leaders for wanting to defeat Russia . He believes that their main goals are only “power and money.”

“Western leaders who are on the warpath want to defeat Russia militarily. Their brilliant plan is absolutely simple, because it is about money that gives influence and power,” Orban emphasized.

It was also reported that the Hungarian prime minister plans to create a pro-Russian “coalition for peace” in the European Parliament . According to him, now the governing bodies of the European Union are dominated by those who are ready for war with Russia.

“We need to win the European elections so that the bureaucrats in Brussels will open the city gates for us and leave in a hurry,” he said.
