Hungarian NATO fighters intercept 5 Russian planes near Latvia

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, five Russian aircraft were intercepted over the Baltic Sea .

The incident was reported by the NATO Air Command on the social network X. Two Hungarian Gripen fighters took part in the operation, taking off from the airfield in the Lithuanian city of Šiauliai.

It is noted that the Russian aircraft did not comply with international flight safety rules and approached close to Latvian airspace. 

We are talking about the Su-30, Su-35 and three MiG-31 fighters. 

“Hungary demonstrates the Alliance’s commitment to the defense and security of the Baltic States and the Eastern Flank,” NATO added.
