During the operation in the Kursk region of Russia, the Defense Forces of Ukraine choose routes that run along important infrastructure highways, in particular, along power lines, gas pipelines, etc. In these areas, the aggressor country Russia is limited in the use of military aircraft.
At the same time, it is still too early to make predictions about the capture of large cities or objects on the territory of the Russian Federation. Dmytro Zhmailo, executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, told about this in an exclusive interview with OBOZ.UA.
“We are moving dynamically, along the gas line, along the power lines, along important transport routes, to limit the capabilities of the Russian aviation, which the Russians wanted to use en masse, despite the civilian casualties,” he explained.
According to the expert, the Ukrainian group in Kurshchyna consists of battle-hardened units equipped with Western-made military equipment. “Therefore, there is still a possibility of advancement on our part,” the expert predicted.
According to Zhmail, the question of taking control of the Kursk NPP directly depends on whether the Defense Forces will be able to ensure the safety of this facility. He did not rule out that in the event of the danger of KANP coming under the control of Ukraine, Russia may resort to provocations in order to blame the Ukrainian side. If such a scenario is really on the agenda, Ukraine will surely refuse such a step, Zhmailo suggested.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that already today the operation of the Armed Forces in Kurshchyna brought positive results for Ukraine. in particular, the threat to the border regions in the north of our country has significantly decreased, and more opportunities have appeared for the active actions of the Defense Forces in the south.
