During the summer period, 13 people who underwent filtration died.

The Russians have increased filtering measures for Ukrainian citizens at the Sheremetyevo airport, through which they try to go home to the occupied territories.

Pavlo Lysyanskyi, the founder of the Eastern Human Rights Group, wrote  on his Telegram channel that the Kremlin indefinitely bans some Ukrainians from entering the Russian Federation and the occupied territories.

“During the summer period, during the filtering process, citizens of Ukraine began to be banned from entering the occupied territories and the Russian Federation for life,” he notes.

According to the human rights defender, during “filtering” FSB representatives inform Ukrainian citizens that their homes in the occupied territories have already been confiscated, which means there is no reason to visit. According to those who passed the filtering, 13 people died during the summer period. As a rule, these are elderly people.

Filtration in the occupied territories

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has actively used population filtering. In 2022, US representatives at the UN stated that such measures  were controlled by officials from the Putin administration . As of September of that year, the Russian authorities interrogated, detained, and forcibly deported from 900,000 to 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens from their homes to the Russian Federation.

For more than two years of war, the aggressor country has not abandoned the practice of filtering until now. In particular, on June 4, the head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Sinegubov stated that the Russians had created  filtration camps  in the occupied part of Vovchansk.

In June, it also became known that since the beginning of 2024, four citizens of Ukraine have died at the Russian Sheremetyevo airport in 2024.
