When Ukraine received its first HIMARS systems in 2022, the American-made multiple launch rocket system played an important role in the liberation of Kherson Oblast. Striking russian logistics ahead of offensives became a hallmark of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since then, HIMARS has been used extensively on the front line.
Although drones are playing an increasingly important role in strikes deep behind enemy lines, HIMARS still has a crucial role on the battlefield — especially when Ukrainian forces need to strike an enemy target immediately.
Despite HIMARS having been used on the battlefield for four years, it remains a relatively secretive weapon from a journalist’s perspective. Little is known firsthand about how the system is actually used in combat.
In this report, soldiers of the 19th Missile Brigade “Saint Barbara” exclusively show hromadske how HIMARS operates and what kinds of targets it strikes.
