The company noted that it has already developed a model of the H&K machine gun for the 7.62 mm by 39 mm Kalashnikov cartridge.

The German defense company Heckler & Koch plans to produce automatic and machine guns of “Soviet” caliber for Ukraine, reports Welt .

The publication, with reference to the representative of H&K, writes that against the background of weak annual indicators, the concern will expand its range of products, adding to it automatic and machine guns chambered for Kalashnikov and other calibers of the countries of the former Warsaw Pact.

It is noted that almost the entire range of the company’s products is already used in Ukraine thanks to supplies from Germany and other NATO countries. For example, H&K supplies pistols (SFP9) and machine guns (MG5) under the agreement of the German government.

“In order to expand its business, H&K also wants to expand its range of rifles to include eastern calibers in the medium and long term. The H&K HK132E machine gun for the 7.62 mm by 39 mm Kalashnikov cartridge has already been developed,” the company notes.

The representative of H&K noted that conceptual studies have already begun, there are development projects, but there is no production yet. At the same time, H&K emphasizes that NATO-caliber weapons have a fundamental priority in development.

Welt notes that H&K is not the first arms manufacturer to cater to West and East in caliber. For example, the large Czech manufacturer CZ (Česká Zbrojovka as) also produces products for both calibers.

  1. That’s a bit odd. I think it’s far better for Ukraine to move away from the Soviet stuff and get standardized for NATO.
