He Left a Dream Life to Fight for Ukraine (video interview)

11/01/2026

British soldier “Camel”, who volunteered to fight for Ukraine, shares why he left a comfortable life in London to fight for Ukraine—and why he’s still fighting. A personal account of the Ukraine war, service, and the decision to stay.

Camel is the reconnaissance company sergeant of the 52nd International Assault Regiment “Forge”, 1st Corps “Azov”. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, he had a good job, a life in London, and snowboarding trips to look forward to. Then he chose to come to Ukraine.

In this interview with the NAFO 69th Sniffing Brigade, he explains what brought him here—and why he cannot simply return to his old life and say he has done his part. He reflects on the families he saw fleeing the invasion, his experience serving in Ukraine, training fellow soldiers, and how the war has changed.

“My part’s not over yet.”

His story is also a reminder of the people behind the support. Camel explains why donations matter to soldiers like him—and how help from others makes it possible to keep going.
