At the end of July 2024, the Khimik group of the Main Intelligence Directorate ( GUR ) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine launched a comprehensive attack on the positions of Russian troops in Syria. This was reported by the Kyiv Post, which published exclusive videos and photos.

A UNIAN source in Ukrainian intelligence confirmed that such a strike did indeed take place.

“We can confirm the information, it is correct,” the source noted.

It is indicated that the target of the attack was Russian military equipment at the Kuweires airbase, which is located east of Aleppo and occupied by Russian troops.

It is also reported that the strike that destroyed Russian equipment came a day after the meeting between so-called Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which took place on July 24.

Hezbollah trains Russian drone operators in Syria

As UNIAN reported, Russian operators of Iranian-made UAVs are being trained in Syria for the war against Ukraine.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine noted in February of this year that they were being trained at the Syrian Shayrat airfield.

Training for Muscovites is being conducted by the “Lebanese Hezbollah Police” and the “Iranian Revolutionary Guard” on the territory of the Syrian military airfield Shayrat.

The GUR noted that the Lebanese-Iranian-Russian training course includes the development of the Shahed-136 and Ababil-3 UAVs, as well as the Raad remotely controlled aircraft.

Along with the Russians, Syrian mercenaries are undergoing training, whom Moscow plans to use in the war against Ukraine as UAV operators.
