This plant is considered one of the largest in Europe – its annual capacity is about 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Drones of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) struck the Orenburg Helium Plant in the city of Orenburg. UNIAN was informed of this by intelligence sources.

As the source noted, this enterprise is the only one in Russia that produces a critical component for the production of rockets, in the space industry and the aviation industry.

Local residents saw UAV flights and reported a series of explosions in the area of the plant. At about 20:00, Russian authorities decided to close a section of the federal highway M-5 “Ural” in the area of the villages of Perevolotskoye and Kholodnye Klyuchi (that is where the GUR target is located).

“The Orenburg Helium Plant is the only enterprise producing helium in the Russian Federation and one of the largest in Europe, with an annual capacity to process about 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Helium is widely used in the production of rockets, the space industry and the aviation industry. The target attacked by military intelligence is directly involved in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and is one of the key objects of the Russian military-industrial complex,” the source noted.
