The dessert for Ukrainians this weekend was the defeat of the Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber at the Olenya airfield.

This was stated by the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense Andrey Yusov on the air of the telethon, commenting on the fact that President Volodymyr Zelensky noted the soldiers of the 9th Department of the GUR for long-range strikes.

“We do not comment on what and where, but the Supreme Commander-in-Chief noted the long-range capability. It is clear that it is not difficult to guess the direction,” he said.

“As for the fact of the defeat, yes, we confirm the fact of the incident – something hit somewhere. We can confirm the fact of the defeat and damage to the strategic bomber,” Yusov said and added that this is very important, since the modern Russian military-industrial complex is not capable of producing such aircraft, because this is what is left of the USSR.

Yusov added that no matter how far the occupiers hide the weapons with which they kill Ukrainians, “the logical result is their destruction.”

Yusov noted that the Olympics are currently underway and the entire world is watching them. “But we have a big war and we have our own achievements. And these are truly Olympic achievements of the Ukrainian security and defense forces, special forces and the GUR,” he noted.

“Massive cyberattacks continue in Russia. Incidents continue at Russian oil refineries and other facilities involved in the war against Ukrainians. And, of course, Olenya is special news and, to a certain extent, dessert for Ukrainians this weekend,” he emphasized.

Attack on the Olenya airfield

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has veiledly confirmed the information about the successful strike of Ukrainian drones on the Russian military airfield “Olenya” near Murmansk. He noted the soldiers who “ensure Ukrainian long-range capabilities”, namely the 9th Department of the Main Intelligence Directorate. According to him, we are talking about accuracy at a distance of almost 1800 km from the Ukrainian border.

It was at the Olenya airfield that a significant portion of Russian strategic missile carriers were based, which are shelling Ukraine with cruise missiles. The distance to the airfield from the Ukrainian border is about 1,800 km. Until recently, the Defense Forces could not carry out strikes at such a distance.
