The State Bureau of Investigation has completed an investigation into the former leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the illegal supply of grenades from Russia.

This was reported in the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation .

The investigation established that in January 2014, former officials illegally supplied Dreyf-2 hand gas grenades from the territory of the Russian Federation to Ukraine; light-noise grenades “Zarya-2”, “Torch-S”, “Flame-M”; hand smoke grenades.

These special means were used against protesters by law enforcement officers, while exceeding official authority. As a result, the victims received bodily injuries of varying severity.

“The specified special equipment did not pass an examination on the possibility and procedure for their application to people, however, they were used by units of the Berkut ILO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine against protesters in the center of Kiev. Also, officials spent UAH 1 million of budgetary funds during customs clearance of these special equipment,” it says. in the message.

The former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, his deputy and the ex-head of the Department of Material Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are suspected of exceeding power by prior agreement by a group of persons and embezzlement of budget funds on an especially large scale (parts 2, 3 of article 28, part 3 of article 365 ( as amended by Law No. 3207-VI of 07.04.2011), parts 3, 5, article 27, part 5, article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In addition, the head of the Department of Material Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine is also suspected of complicity in illegally obstructing meetings, rallies, street processions and demonstrations during the Revolution of Dignity (part 5 of article 27, part 2 of article 28, article 340 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The suspects were sentenced in absentia to preventive measures in the form of detention. The defense has already received the case materials for review. The indictment will then go to court.
