Ukraine, with the support of the United Kingdom, will receive 1.7 billion pounds ($2.3 billion) to strengthen its defense capabilities.

The corresponding Credit Agreement on raising a loan under the guarantee of the Export Finance Agency of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UKEF) was signed by Finance Minister Serhiy on the sidelines of the Conference on the Recovery of Ukraine in Rome, the press service of the Ministry of Finance reports.

The loan will be used to finance the priority project “Development of Air Defense Capabilities”, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Defense. In particular, the funds will be used to finance the procurement of defense materials and other defense goods and services in the United Kingdom.

The loan repayment period is 19 years, and the grace period is 6.5 years.

“By unlocking funding with the support of UKEF, we are ensuring the supply of vital military equipment to Ukraine and strengthening our own defense industrial base,” said Gareth Thomas, Minister for Services, Small Business and Exports of the United Kingdom.

As reported, at the same time, the United Kingdom and Ukraine signed a historic agreement to supply more than 5,000 missiles for air defense systems from Thales.

In addition, London confirmed bilateral assistance to Ukraine worth up to 283 million pounds ($377 million) over the next year.

Recall that in July 2024, the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed a Framework Agreement. It provides for an export credit for Ukraine for a total amount of up to 2 billion pounds sterling (about $2.7 billion) to strengthen defense capabilities.
