German defense firm Helsing is supplying its HX-2 loitering munition to Ukraine in significant quantities and plans to enhance the system primarily through software and artificial intelligence updates, rather than major airframe modifications, according to Defense Express on November 11.

Defense Express stated that Ukraine has placed two orders totaling 10,000 HX-2 drones, while Helsing aims to scale its output to 2,500 units per month.

The outlet reported that the company has run continual improvement cycles over two years, testing approximately 30 airframes weekly. In recent German trials of three competing systems, the HX-2 was the only drone to hit its target 17 times consecutively.

According to the publication, the HX-2 has a range of up to 100 km, a top speed of 220 km/h, and multiple warhead options, with a maximum of 4 kg within a 12 kg airframe. It can recognize and engage targets and navigate without GNSS by correlating imagery with onboard maps. Launches use catapults or box launchers, with a containerized option planned.
