Germany to send additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine

Germany will deliver an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine immediately.

The German Federal Ministry of Defense said this in a post on X, Ukrinform reports.

“Germany will immediately hand over another Patriot system to Ukraine to repel Russian airstrikes. This is in addition to the air defense systems that have already been delivered and are planned to be delivered,” the post reads.

Due to the increase in Russian airstrikes against Ukraine, the German government decided to further strengthen Ukrainian air defenses, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said. He noted that Russian terror from the air continues and poses a threat to human life and the existence of infrastructure, as well as the combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

  1. One? One Patriot battery against the entire RuSSian Federation? Oh man! I need a drink. Again! 🥴

    • It’s better than nothing. At least the Europeans are trying. Of course it could be better, but Ukraine are finding out who its true friends are.

        • That’s about it. Ukraine should not need to negotiate anything. Real friends would give them what they need.

          • Its embarrassing the USA finally approved the transfer of F16s and Patriots but didn’t provide any themselves. If we had gotten to work on them after the 2014 invasion none of this would have happened.

    • The German Forces had 13 Patriot Systems, of which 2 have already been given to Ukraine. The additional donation now will further reduce the operational number left to 10. So, Germany handed over 23% of its air defence systems, while also contributing 4 brand new Iris-T Systems, which the Luftwaffe doesn’t even have themselves (6 are on order). If all Nato states had been as solidaric, Ukraine would already have a strong air defence. Please blame other countries, especially the US, for their stingyness. 🤨

  2. I was wondering why the UK wasn’t sending any.
Turns out they don’t have long range air defence.
How can such a formidable force not have long range air defence?
    I think this is ridiculous.

I hope I am wrong and that I have missed something.

    • Right, my opinion, too. Germany donated 23% of its Patriot batteries. This should provide an example for other nations. Let’s do the math, it’s simple: 23% of the about 100 systems in use worldwide would be 23, very close to the 25 that Selenskyy said are needed. Come on, Nato countries, do the right thing now! 🤨

      • I can’t comprehend the need to animate those countries to do the right thing, especially seeing that the Patriots are only for defense. This little detail to sooth their scared nerves.
