According to the German Finance Minister, such a proposal by the US President will not receive the necessary unanimity.

Russia will not be accepted into the G7 , as demanded by US President Donald Trump, German Finance Minister Joerg Kukis said in an interview with Reuters .
“The G7’s condemnation of Russia’s war of aggression is very clear, especially on the third anniversary of Russia’s brutal attack,” the politician stressed, adding that Trump’s proposal will not receive the necessary unanimity.
The publication noted that Kukis will travel to Cape Town for the G20 finance ministers meeting, but US representative Scott Bessent will not be present due to a scheduling misunderstanding. It is noted that the current state of the global economy will be the main topic of the meeting.
“We really need to get back on the path of economic growth,” the German minister noted.
Germany “has a lot of homework to do,” he said.
At the same time, Kukis believes that a trade war between the US and the EU can be avoided, since both sides are ready for negotiations.
“Nobody is interested in starting a trade war,” the politician added.
In turn, the minister added that the G7 could discuss proposals to use $300 billion of Russian assets that were frozen in Europe to restore Ukraine. However, he stressed that “the discussions are just beginning, so it is probably a bit early to talk about this.”
Russia’s Return to the G7 – What is Known
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he would “gladly” welcome Russia back into the G7 . According to him, the decision to exclude the country from the “Big Seven” was a mistake.
“Obama and a few other people made a mistake by excluding it. It is quite possible that if the G8 had remained, there would not have been a crisis in Ukraine. And if I had been president, Russia would never have attacked Ukraine,” he said.
At the same time, France responded to Trump’s desire to return Russia to the G7 . They believe that such a return is currently unthinkable, since the “Big Seven” is a group of the most developed democracies.
