German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock responded to US President Donald Trump’s statement that he would “gladly” accept Russia back into the G7 . She believes that cooperation with Russia is out of the question while dictator Vladimir Putin is in power, dpa writes .
“As partners in the G7, we have made it clear repeatedly over the last three years since this brutal, full-scale Russian invasion: There can be no normal cooperation with this Russia, with Putin’s Russia,” she said.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry stressed that the resumption of cooperation with Russia is possible only if the Kremlin’s policy changes. She added that in this case, it will be possible to “return to the path of peace.”
Baerbock also noted that she welcomes Trump’s talks with Putin if this step will help achieve peace in Ukraine. However, she called on the West to continue to put pressure on Russia.
“If there is a path to peace now, then the whole world, and above all Europe, will breathe a sigh of relief,” said the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
