Germany plans to abandon Russian oil and coal by the end of the year

By the fall of this year, Germany must completely abandon coal from Russia, and by the end of the year – to become almost independent of Russian oil.

This was stated in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung by German Economy Minister Robert Habeck, reports European Truth.

At the same time, it will be more difficult to give up Russian gas, as Germany does not have its own capacity to import liquefied gas. Relevant terminals Germany only plans to build.

Habek stressed that Germany plans to completely abandon energy imports from Russia. He said he “understood everyone who called for an immediate embargo on Putin’s brutal war of aggression”, but stressed that he was “responsible for the whole country”.

“It is not to sacrifice a personal comfort, but about serious reductions, economic and social: in case of immediate prohibition on imports will be a decrease in the supply of next winter, an economic downturn and high inflation, hundreds of thousands of people who lose their work, “Sanctions must be such that we can survive. But we work every day, really every day, and sometimes at night, to reduce our dependence on Russian oil, coal and gas,” Gabek added.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden announced a ban on imports of Russian oil, gas and coal. The United Kingdom and Canada have already joined the action.

At the same time, EU countries have announced their intention to gradually reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas by diversifying their supplies and phasing out fossil fuels.
