German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has stated that for now, his country has exhausted its capabilities for providing Patriot air defence systems to Kyiv.
Source: European Pravda, citing an interview Pistorius gave to German newspaper Berliner Morgenpost and quoted by German news magazine Focus
Details: Pistorius indicated that Germany has already delivered several Patriot systems and a certain number of missiles for them to Ukraine.
He noted that whatever Germany provides now would be replenished for the time being, which would lead to gaps in their own defence which they could not justify, adding that providing anything more is currently impossible.
According to the minister, other countries must now shoulder a greater burden in this regard.
Pistorius added that this issue will be discussed in mid-November within the framework of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (also known as the Ramstein format).
Background:
- Earlier, Ukrainian Defence Minister Yevhenii Khmara urged the E5 countries – Germany, the UK, France, Poland and Italy – to consider sending 10% of their stockpiles of interceptor missiles for Patriot and IRIS-T systems to Ukraine in exchange for future deliveries expected by Kyiv.
- President Zelenskyy has stated that this year, Ukraine is receiving an average of only 12 Patriot missiles per month.
