Official Berlin insists that the sanctions against Russia , which will be imposed in the event of an invasion of Ukraine, do not include restrictions on the energy sector.
As allies work on a comprehensive set of measures, each country is trying to insulate its economy from potentially significant “side effects”, Bloomberg reports . Germany is concerned that otherwise energy supplies could be in jeopardy, according to one of the documents, the newspaper reports.
At the same time, such an “exception” from the sanctions will not prevent possible measures against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

Other major Western European countries hold similar views, sources say. One of the officials said it could be speculated that the exemption would likely be part of the final package of sanctions agreed with the US that would be applied in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on January 25, US President Joe Biden said that he did not rule out the imposition of personal sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin in the event of an invasion of Ukraine.
In addition, the US is considering unprecedented technological sanctions against Russia. We are talking about the introduction of a ban on the sale to Russia of high-tech products containing American-made components or software.
