Germany admitted that Nord Stream 2 contributed to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Scholz defended the pipeline for a long time.

German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann admitted that Germany is responsible for Russia’s aggressive war in Ukraine, as it supported the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline .

As Politico writes , Bushmann noted during a meeting with G7 colleagues in Berlin that Germany’s duty is to “directly confront this truth” and “draw the correct conclusions from it.”

“Knowing what we are doing today, the decision to continue Nord Stream 2 after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 was Germany’s contribution to resolving the war in Ukraine,” the minister said.

Bushman’s statement contrasts with that of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has long defended the pipeline. Back in December of last year, Scholz called Nord Stream 2 a “private sector project.”

Four months before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, Berlin still saw no danger in the launch of Nord Stream 2, as evidenced by the declassified report of the Merkel government.

Merkel supported the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and said that Russia has always been a reliable supplier of gas. Towards the end of her term, Merkel acknowledged that it was an economic project with a “political dimension”, but continued to argue that it would not threaten Europe’s energy supply.

Merkel has also denied any responsibility for Germany’s current energy crisis.

  1. Germany did cause this war, along with its equally treacherous junior partner France.
Both owe huge reparations to Ukraine. But first they must step up their military and financial aid. So far it’s piss-poor.
If each of these rotten regimes would immediately pay an advance of €50bn each to Ukraine, that would be a step in the right direction.

    • If Merkel had not sold out to putler in 2008, Ukraine and Georgia would be far better places right now and her cowardly position cost many thousands of innocent lives. And for what? Cheap gas? Merkel’s father helped Hitler and Merkel helped Hitler 2.0.

  2. “…Germany’s duty is to “directly confront this truth” and “draw the correct conclusions from it.”

Will they draw the correct conclusion? I doubt it. We already know that the block head Merkel refuses to admit her guilt. It doesn’t matter. Germany will not come out of this unscathed. And, it’s continued foot dragging in regard to aid to Ukraine makes everything only worse.

  3. I think Merkel is worse than I thought.
I always expected her to be somewhere between a Russia hawk and the Russophile SPD, but I now think she was fully on the side of the Russophiles.

She is a terrible person, and I wouldn’t mind to see her hanging next to Orban, Putin, Schröder, Yanukovich, Trump and that Stasi dude that was or still is heading Nord Stream AG in some tribunal. And I would like to see Heiko Maas, Steinmeier and Scholz in prison for quite some time.

We shouldn’t only punish the aggressor itself, but also those that have enabled Russian aggression.

I can hardly blame Putin for being a psychopath, he is just brain damaged. But I think those that I mentioned were fully aware of what they were doing and its human cost.

Maybe add Macron to the list, but I don’t know if he is a Russophile or just an idiot. I feel he is a lot less intelligent than people are thinking.

I think he is naive and over-confident.
Let’s put him in jail for 5 years just for certainty.

  4. The article misses two main points….
1…Trump imposed sanctions on Nordstream, so it would not open.

2…Biden removed those sanctions, allowing Nordstream to open..

    Two very important points..

Again, Biden is making it look like he’s doing something, but he still is helping Putin..
