German military assistance to Ukraine turned out to be much less than the German authorities claim – BILD

Part of the 6 billion euros promised for military assistance to Kyiv will go to other countries and to rearm the Bundeswehr.

The German government says it has provided 28 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine . Bundestag deputy from the CDU/CSU opposition bloc Ingo Gaedechens sent a request to the authorities demanding an explanation of these figures.

According to BILD , it turned out that 3.4 billion euros of this amount could be returned from EU funds. Part of the 6 billion euros promised for military assistance to Kyiv will go to other countries and to rearm the Bundeswehr. The parliamentarian estimates this difference at another 2.6 billion euros. Taking into account these and other areas, it turns out that the actual promised military aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is only 21.7 billion. This is 23% less than the authorities claim.

Gaedechens insists that these figures are also exaggerated. This includes amounts promised to Ukraine for the future up to 2028. It is unclear what will happen to this money by then. The deputy believes that in reality, only 10.2 billion euros have been transferred to Kyiv from Berlin so far.

“The Chancellor gives the impression that Germany has already provided Ukraine with military support worth 28 billion euros. In fact, we have not yet allocated even half of this amount. The Chancellor is primarily concerned with increasing his own authority. And, unfortunately, too little for Ukraine,” – said Gaedechens.

BILD open data analysis expert Julian Röpke calls the situation “creativity in accounting” and “conjured billions.”
