Germany will allocate a “three-digit million-dollar sum” to support the Czech initiative to purchase 800,000 shells for Ukraine.

The German t-online website reported on this.

Steffen Hebestreit, the spokesman for the German government, made the corresponding statement, he called this initiative “very good”.

“A three-digit million-dollar sum will be raised to support this initiative. This has not been finalized yet, but it will definitely be done in the near future,” he emphasized.

Within this initiative, countries participate in the joint procurement and transfer of ammunition to Ukraine by identifying possible stockpiles of ammunition or sources of rapid production available for purchase.

All for the sake of delivering military aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as soon as possible, which is necessary to confront the Russian invaders.

As previously reported, the Czech Republic has located about 800,000 artillery rounds of NATO and Soviet-era caliber in third countries that can be purchased for Ukraine.

According to Czech President Petr Pavel, the country’s officials managed to find about 500,000 155-mm artillery shells and 300,000 122-mm shells abroad.155 mm artillery shells. Photo credits: Brian E. Christiansen/Flickr

The Netherlands, which will allocate €250 million to purchase the ammunition, and Belgium, which will provide €200 million, have publicly announced their participation.

France has also supported this initiative, but no funds have been reported. Overall, fifteen countries support the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine outside the EU.

As previously reported, German officials are holding secret talks with India on the purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine.

  1. “A three-digit million-dollar sum will be raised to support this initiative. This has not been finalized yet, but it will definitely be done in the near future,”

Ukraine’s been critically low on ammo for well over a month. The Czechs found the 800,000 rounds three weeks ago. Now, Germany might hand over money “in the near future”. You can make your own opinion about all of this.

    • I’m aware this looks like Pistorius and his Team aren’t even remotely aware how dramatic the situation at the frontline is. But maybe it’s Scholz again who didn’t want to decide? One way or the other, that’s not the way to fulfill a security guarantee. 😣

      • Of course, I had Scholz in mind. Who else can dither so much? I think Pistorius is much better and faster at making decisions.

  2. I honestly don’t know why this took longer as for the Netherlands. And i can only hope the “three-digit million-dollar sum” is higher than the 250 millions given by the smaller neighbor. :sigh:
