“General Winter” is russia’s strongest soldier. Or, in other words, the cold russian winters have often been cited as a factor that makes russia undefeatable on the battlefield. But many people miss an important fact: this has only been true in contexts where russia was the defender.

As the invading army in their war against Ukraine, it now turns out that russia’s greatest strength is becoming its greatest weakness. Ukraine has figured this out, and is now actively working to make this worse for russia this winter, with pressure on russian energy networks and supply chains that Russia simply can NOT handle.
