Russian gas company Gazprom announced the cessation of gas supplies to Moldova . The decision will come into force on the morning of January 1, 2025.

The Gazprom press service reported that supplies would be stopped allegedly due to Chisinau’s refusal to resolve the issue of the debt for gas supplies. The corresponding notification was sent to Moldovagaz.

The Russian gas monopoly accused Moldova of failing to fulfill payment obligations under the current contract, which is a “material violation of its terms.”

“In this regard, PJSC Gazprom, from 08:00 Moscow time on January 1, 2025, will introduce a restriction on natural gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova to 0 cubic meters per day. The restriction will be in effect until PJSC Gazprom notifies Moldovagaz in writing otherwise,” the notice states.

In turn, JSC Moldovagaz reported that it took note of PJSC Gazprom’s decision to limit gas supplies.

“It should be noted that, starting from December 2022, all natural gas supplied by PJSC Gazprom in the amount of 5.7 million cubic meters per day was transferred to JSC Moldovagaz in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, natural gas for consumers on the right bank of the Dniester was purchased on regional and European markets. It should be emphasized that JSC Moldovagaz contracted the necessary volumes of gas, which will fully cover all consumption on the Right Bank until the end of March 2025,” the statement said.

It is worth noting that at 07:00 Kyiv time, the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory ceases.
