Due to a fuel shortage, authorities in russia’s Leningrad Oblast have decided to limit gasoline sales at service stations. Drivers will be able to purchase no more than 30 liters per refueling.

This was reported by The Moscow Times.

The new rules are set to take effect in the coming days at all gas stations across the region. According to the local authorities’ decision, the restriction will remain in place until October 1, pending further review.

Leningrad Region Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko acknowledged that the fuel situation remains difficult. However, he stated that authorities expect to stabilize the situation and urged residents not to panic.

Special provisions have been made for emergency vehicles: ambulances and emergency service vehicles will be allowed to refuel without waiting in line.

Meanwhile, the potential introduction of an “odd-even” refueling system – based on vehicle license plate numbers – has been kept as a contingency measure.

Gas stations closing in the Leningrad Oblast

Fuel supply issues have already impacted gas station operations in the region. According to Drozdenko, about 20% of private and small gas stations have temporarily suspended operations due to the fuel shortage. The greatest difficulties arose with AI-95 gasoline.

One of the reasons for the shortage was the shutdown of the KINEF oil refinery – one of the largest refineries in northwestern russia.

Consequently, the region is attempting to curb fuel demand and prevent further shortages by imposing temporary limits at gas stations.

It is worth noting that the Financial Times, citing analysts from S&P Global Energy, reported that Ukrainian strikes had disabled more than 30% of oil refining capacity.
