Countries are discussing the possibility of imposing new sanctions.

The foreign ministers of the G5+ countries propose setting a deadline for completing ceasefire negotiations in Ukraine.

According to Polish Radio , this was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who participated in the meeting in Madrid. According to him, the ministers propose to introduce new sanctions against Russia if the negotiations are not completed by the set deadline:

“Russia has already received certain assurances from the American side. Ukraine has accepted the ceasefire proposal unconditionally. We cannot wait forever until Putin stops wanting to kill.”

As you know, the term G5+ is used to refer to a group of five leading European countries – Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. They cooperate with other states or organizations to discuss important international issues.

The meeting in Madrid was also attended by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas. The Ukrainian side participated remotely.

Ceasefire in Ukraine

Recall, recently, the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, called on Kyiv and Moscow to agree to an immediate ceasefire on the front for a period of 30 days.

During negotiations in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian side agreed to do this, but Moscow said that such a step requires further discussion.

The Kremlin later promised to stop attacks on Ukrainian energy, but immediately broke that promise.

    • “Ukraine has accepted the ceasefire proposal unconditionally.” – Not an unconditional ceasefire, but an unconditional acceptance of the ceasefire that was proposed. One of the conditions in the proposal was that Ukraine would stop shooting if russia did. russia was adding conditions to what had been proposed – adding things like, Ukraine can’t rearm during the ceasefire, etc.
