My Address in Vienna on my way to Strasbourg
With 🇺🇦 Ukraine and our people in my heart…
❗️Two weeks ago, I woke up in #Kyiv to the rumbling sound of bombs falling from the sky.
The road to the European Parliament was difficult and long… and it is nothing compared to what some of my fellow Ukrainians have to endure every day.
I saw endless crowds of my people at the border… on my way here… women and children who have left everything behind to save themselves from the aggressor — they’ve abandoned their homes, their lives… their beloved husbands, fathers, and brothers.
It was then that — as I was distracted by the sound of birds chirping — that I fully realized that my country was at war… I broke down in tears.
As I was on my way to Strasbourg via Vienna, I addressed everyone and anyone who would listen,
To all those with a shred of humanity!
Of course, we knew that the invasion of Ukraine and the potential occupation of some parts of our land was a possible scenario.
We did not however imagine that a full-scale war could be launched against us from people who repeatedly claimed to be our brothers.
We never pose any threat to Russia and yet, here we are.
Today, more than ever, we need help!
Today we are deeply convinced that it will take a collective and global effort to stop this madness and guarantee peace for tomorrow!
We must fight together for the safety of the continent and to protect the ideals of freedom that the European community was built upon.
We must stand together — determined and decisive!
