From Kaliningrad or Belarus: The US warned Poland of Russian provocations, possibly a ground invasion — The Telegraph

The United States has warned that the aggressor state Russia is planning an armed “provocation” on Polish territory. This could include missile strikes, drone attacks, or Russian soldiers crossing the border, The Telegraph reports, citing sources close to Polish President Karol Nawrocki.

According to the publication, Washington has warned Warsaw several times of Russia’s intentions. The provocation could begin within a few months.

Polish security sources believe that Moscow is thus attempting to escalate tensions and force Western allies to stop aiding Ukraine.

According to sources, provocation scenarios could include drone attacks on critical infrastructure facilities, such as power plants, or simulated air strikes, which would force Poland to activate its air defense systems. Officials also haven’t ruled out the “most extreme scenario”—a traditional attack, specifically a small-scale ground incursion by Russian or Belarusian troops into border regions.

Russia could present this as an accidental intrusion into Polish territory due to a GPS glitch, or as a fake “rescue operation” to evacuate a helicopter that had suffered a technical malfunction, The Telegraph writes.

Moscow may be counting on Poland, under US pressure, to negotiate rather than open fire on Russian or Belarusian troops, Polish sources report. A scenario in which the Russians withdraw their troops from Poland as a result of these negotiations, rather than being forced to do so militarily, would be viewed as a “victory” from Moscow’s perspective.

The end of Western support for Ukraine could become Russia’s main demand during negotiations in exchange for the withdrawal of troops from Poland, the article says.

One source stated that the US is “systematically informing Poland” of Russian plans to attack NATO’s eastern flank. Provocations in one of the Baltic states are also possible. A security source in one of the Baltic states confirmed to The Telegraph that such plans had been discussed in Moscow.

Russia could then try to claim that Ukraine carried out the “provocation.” Any ground attack by Russia could be launched either from Kaliningrad, where Russian nuclear weapons are deployed, or from Belarus, the report states.

On September 10, 2025,  nearly 20 Russian drones crossed Polish airspace from Ukraine and Belarus; the drones penetrated 300 kilometers into Poland. In response, NATO invoked Article 4 of the Charter, which provides for consultations in the event of a threat.

Russia subsequently denied that it had planned to attack Polish targets.

On June 26, 2026, the British newspaper The Guardian, citing Western intelligence, reported that Russia was preparing military provocations in the Baltic states or Poland amid mounting pressure due to long-range strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on Russian cities. A full-scale Russian invasion is not expected; it could involve hybrid attacks, including missile strikes, drone strikes, or other actions.

On June 29, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense stated that it does not see any signs that the aggressor country is preparing for a large-scale military attack on the Baltic states, but the threat of sabotage remains high.

  1. If the United States were a great nation, it would warn the mafia state and not simply inform a NATO ally about possible aggressive acts against it. But we are a pathetic banana republic that has a fat, stupid dickhead as president and a worthless Congress.
Be it as it may, will this scare the Polish government back to reality and make them stop their childish bickering with Ukraine?
