China is contemplating the prospect of joining the Global Peace Summit proposed by Ukraine at the leadership level, set to take place in Switzerland, as stated by Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland, Wang Shiting, in an interview with Neue Zuercher Zeitung.
The diplomat emphasized China’s stance on advocating for peace talks, noting its longstanding commitment to this principle.
“We have also put forth a strategy for a political resolution to the conflict: it is imperative to uphold the territorial sovereignty of all nations and abide by the UN Charter,” the ambassador remarked.
Wang stressed the collective responsibility of all parties involved in ending the war.
“We must prevent the crisis from exacerbating or spiraling out of control. We are closely monitoring the upcoming Ukrainian conference to be hosted by Switzerland and are exploring the option of participation. Our aim is to facilitate direct dialogue between Russia and Ukraine to de-escalate the situation gradually,” highlighted the ambassador.
Simultaneously, he voiced opposition against anti-Russian sanctions, arguing that they “only breed new problems and fail to resolve the conflict.”

“The political leadership of the Russian Federation and those involved in organizing the ‘elections’ in the occupied territory of Ukraine will face the consequences of their illegal actions,” stated the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
“The EU emphasizes that it does not recognize and will never recognize either the holding of the so-called ‘elections’ in these territories of Ukraine or their results. They are null and void and cannot have any legal consequences,” Borrell affirmed.
