France Macron, Germany Merkel welcome prisoner swap in Ukraine

PARIS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed a prisoner swap completed on Sunday between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, they said in a joint statement.

Remaining detainees in the five-year conflict were bussed to an exchange point in the breakaway Donbass region, in an exchange that was agreed upon by Ukrainian and Russian leaders at a summit in Paris earlier in December.

“The prisoner swap that was completed today is a long-awaited humanitarian measure,” according to Macron and Merkel’s joint statement, released by the French president’s office. “In line with the decisions taken at the Paris summit, it must now be followed by the full implementation of the ceasefire.”

  1. “The prisoner swap that was completed today is a long-awaited humanitarian measure,”

Do they really believe the shit they are spouting? Muscovy didn’t agree to this out of any humanitarian gesture, it was to return terrorists back to Russia, and to deprive Ukraine of evidence of Russian involvement in Maidan.

  2. ‘Yay, lets all jump on the Bandwagon and make it look as though we are great statespeople.’

    • The useless OSCE have done the same, not one politician in Europe has condemned Zelensky for swapping convicted terrorists.

    • And this shameful statement from PACE, “A good development today: Ukraine and separatists begin all-for-all prisoner swap,”
After all these years do they still think Ukraine is fighting separatists? They must get all there info from the RTards.

      • Yeah, and they are all pushing this all for all BS. Do they really believe Russia only had 12 Ukrainian POW’s in Donbas?

          • Just read this statement from one of Zelensky’s pro Russian puppets.

“Viktor Chumak, deputy prosecutor general, defended the exchange. “Only strong people are able to take the unpopular decisions,” he wrote on Facebook.”

            • Isn’t it paradox that a government that relied on the popular vote and calls itself ‘servants of the people’ now comes up with unpopular decisions. The word ‘betrayal’ comes to mind. It’s like Trump would have said after the elections that the US doesn’t need a wall, but more muslim trash and mexican immigrants instead.

              • A strong man would have told Putin to GFY, Zelensky is a weakling, and he’s not even running the country.

                • The voters who were frustrated with Poro because of ongoing corruption could have had Yulia. But they fucked up. Five long years Ukraine will now suffer from this idiotic Kolomoisky government. And in five years from now Yulia will be too old and Poroshenko’s shadow have faded… an impeachment is Ukraine’s last hope, but that law was also rigged now just like the immunity law…

                  • The voters will be a hell of a lot more frustrated when Ukraine becomers a Russian vassal state again, and I have no sympathy for them. They fell for this BS of Zelensky, now they have nobody else to blame.

  3. Fucking Eurotrash! They are only good at stirring things up and later abandon people. If it wasn’t for the United States – the war in Yugoslavia would have continued to this day. Euro-diplomacy is beneath human dignity!

  4. The rebels Ukraine released told on Russian TV , they are happy to be released from Ukrainian Nazism!!!! And will take up their weapons again against the Ukrainian Army in Donbas.
