France’s ex-president Hollande on Putin: “Lying is second nature to him”

In an interview, France’s former president gave an insight into his talks with Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin. In doing so, he makes use of a certain method.

Former French President François Hollande has called Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin a liar. “Talking to Putin means having to listen to him for hours, knowing that he doesn’t do anything he says and doesn’t say anything he wants to do,” Hollande said in an interview with Le Monde newspaper on Tuesday “.

Putin’s method is that of endless lectures with historical digressions that allow him not to answer any questions precisely and not to make any concessions expected of him, be they of a humanitarian or political nature. “Lies are second nature to him.”

Hollande, who ruled in the Élysée Palace from 2012 to 2017, said it makes sense that his successor, Emmanuel Macron, should not break the channel of communication with Putin. But a dialogue for the sake of dialogue makes no sense. “Putin doesn’t really want to negotiate today. His war aim is to occupy as large an area of Ukraine as possible, especially in the east, the Donbass, which he can then integrate into the Russian Federation tomorrow, and then the south, continuing with Crimea. “

A trip by Macron to Kyiv is currently inappropriate given the upcoming presidential elections in France. “But the next French president’s first trip should be to Kyiv.”

After the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, Hollande had struggled with the then Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) for a diplomatic solution and negotiated the Minsk agreements, including a ceasefire, with Putin.

  1. So how do you “negotiate” with a demented dictator that lies like it is second nature to him?
    Answer: You don’t.
We already wasted 8 years trying to negotiate with Hitler and produced zero results. Even if he did agree to be civilized he would conjure up a provocation or flat out lie and the agreement would be dust in the wind.
