On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the Minister of the Armed Forces of France, Sebastien Lecornu, officially announced that at the beginning of next year, France will transfer Dassault Aviation Mirage 2000-5F fighters to Ukraine. These aircraft are currently being upgraded to meet the standards of the French Air Force. Lecornu made this announcement during the celebrations at Saint-Dizier Air Force Base 113 dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first nuclear mission of the Strategic Air Forces. The news about the supply of combat aircraft to Ukraine undoubtedly caused a negative reaction in the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin critically assesses the transfer of combat aircraft to Ukraine from European countries, which hinders his plans in the war against Ukraine.

France will take delivery of 12 to 20 Mirage 2000-5F fighters in 2025, according to various sources. Lecornu said that the first deliveries are planned for the first quarter of next year, from January to March. Until then, French specialists will train Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel. Whether the two-seater Mirage 2000B will be among the transferred aircraft is not yet known. However, it can be said that the Mirage 2000-5F will become a multipurpose combat aircraft for the Air Force of Ukraine, and the aircraft will be repainted in Ukrainian colors. One of the main modifications will be the possibility of using SCALP-EG cruise missiles, which are already in service in Ukraine.

Next year, Ukraine will receive an important new weapon to fight the Russian invaders. This is positive news for Ukraine and indicates strong diplomatic relations between Kyiv and Paris.
