This was stated by French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu, writes Le Monde. He added that the armored vehicles will be transferred from the warehouses of the French army, which they are going to replace with new ones.
“To maintain such a large front line, the Ukrainian army needs, for example, our armored front-line vehicles: this is absolutely necessary for the mobility of troops. This old equipment, still serviceable, will be able to directly benefit Ukraine in significant quantities. We are talking about hundreds in 2024 year and the beginning of 2025,” Lecornu said.
In particular, we are talking about VAB armored personnel carriers, which are “more than 40 years old.” The French army began to replace them with the new generation Griffon armored vehicle.
In addition, the minister noted France’s intention to help Ukraine strengthen its air defense against the backdrop of massive Russian strikes. The country is currently preparing to transfer a new batch of Aster 30 anti-aircraft missiles for SAMP/T air defense systems.
Lecornu also said that France is working on developing remote-controlled ammunition, which could appear in Ukraine as early as the summer of 2024. The work, according to the official, continues “in a very short time.”
Let us remind you that earlier in France they announced that they would transfer decommissioned weapons to Ukraine. The French government believes that the equipment, which is in working order but needs to be replaced with a new one, could be useful on the battlefield in Ukraine.
At the same time, the French Minister of Defense responded to critics of the decision to supply decommissioned equipment to Ukraine from the warehouses of the French army, noting that it will not affect the defense capability of France in any way.

Although I wish for once that Ukraine would get new equipment, anything is welcome seeing that the US is still sending only bad advice and hot air.
Right, Mr. Ofp, and it has to be added that anti-ballistic missiles and APCs are what Ukraine urgently needs. It’s important that a steady supply for Samp/T is secured, especially since the supply of Patriot missiles is in doubt. Of course, it would be even better if France or Italy also provided another battery of the system. And as for VAB, fourty year old french APCs certainly are better than Soviet BTRs of the 1960s. Since additional mobilization has to happen this year, with new units created to enable rotation, there will be a huge demand for transport vehicles. So, this deliveries certainly will be very welcome for the AFU. 🙂
