European leaders are set to gather in Paris on Feb. 17 for an emergency summit over concerns that the U.S. is advancing peace talks with Russia without Europe, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced on Feb. 15.

This comes amid recent talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as a speech on Feb. 14 by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference, in which he attacked current European politics and values.

Additionally, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, said on Feb. 15 that Europe will not be directly involved in negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, but its interests will be considered.

Sikorski mentioned the upcoming meeting between European leaders during the Munich Security Conference, and expressed hope that leaders would take the matter seriously.

It is unclear which leaders will be present, but British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have so far confirmed their attendance.

  1. “It is unclear which leaders will be present, but British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have so far confirmed their attendance.”

I think that there will have to be another emergency meeting after the German elections, which are next Sunday. Scholz will no longer be chancellor and maybe there will be new and better possibilities, regarding Germany’s involvement, when the new chancellor, Friedrich Merz sits in Scholz’s stead.

  2. And why should the trump delegation on its way to the KSA give any credence to such a meeting; the outcome of which will only be the usual “strongly worded statement?”
Now, in the unlikely event that the announcement would have teeth, Trump might respond favorably. This is what it should say but won’t :

“In light of the Trump administration’s decision to exclude us from talks, we recognize that we haven’t done enough for Ukraine. Accordingly, the $300 billion of kremlin regime money will be made available immediately for the exclusive use of the Ukrainian armed forces.
Also, preparations have commenced for the deployment of several mechanized divisions of troops from Europe and the UK to Ukraine. This will happen while peace talks commence and they will remain, regardless of the outcome of any peace negotiations.”

    • Europe, I’m afraid, is not yet fully grown up yet. It’s still standing in the rain, not sure what to do to get out of it. And, as long as Hungary and Slovakia are ruskie proxies, which the Europeans haven’t even been able to solve yet, any decisions on EU and NATO basis are futile.
