This is a marked departure from France’s traditional policy of favoring European arms and ammunition.

France is reconsidering its position regarding the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine exclusively in Europe.
With concerns growing that the EU may not meet its commitment to supply a million artillery shells to Ukraine by March, France is now open to the possibility of purchasing from foreign suppliers, but only if the EU fails to meet the March deadline, writes Politico .

Makes sense to me. It doesn’t matter where the ammo comes from, as long as it fits the howitzers, fires, flies, and explodes where the roaches are.
There could be a new reality hitting the leaders of the EU ….if we lose they will definitely lose.
let’s say that there are priorities in time, firstly the commitment to Ukraine and then the adult arming of the EU.
by the way even if the ammunition is NATO standard they can be very different in weight for example and I remember a gunner who spoke about what that implied in terms of complexity (firing / logistics)
