Russian football player and participant of the 2004 European Football Championship as part of the Russian national team, Alexei Bugayev, died in the war against Ukraine.

This is reported by the Russian publication Sport24, citing a statement from his agent. It is known that last autumn the footballer was detained with 500 grams of a methylephedrone derivative. He was accused of producing and selling drugs.

At first, Bugayev said he worked as a courier for drug dealers to pay off debts, but soon said that police had planted drugs on him and extorted money.

At the end of September this year, Bugayev was sentenced to 9.5 years in a maximum security prison colony. He went to fight against Ukraine to avoid prison.

  1. There you go, players are not required to become commentators after their ‘Careers’.

That would have been the first time he was genuinely hurt.

  2. He should have stayed in prison. But I assume muskovites truly believe the lies they are been told, that they are winning the war and the special operation goes according to plan
