Retired FSB Major General Igor Laptev, 83, was found dead in Moscow on August 20. Russian propaganda media claims that the former high-ranking security official committed suicide.

Laptev’s body, according to Russian media reports , was found in his apartment on Verkhnaya Krasnosilskaya Street in Moscow.

Moskovsky Komsomolets was one of the first to report the general’s death. The publication stated that Laptev had allegedly committed suicide, but did not provide details about the circumstances of his death.

Who was Igor Laptev?

Igor Laptev worked for a long time in Soviet and Russian security agencies. According to Russian media, he participated in the USSR’s war against Afghanistan, and then served in the FSB, where he dealt with information security issues.

Later, Laptev worked in the tax police and even held the position of Deputy Minister of Taxes and Duties of the Russian Federation.

After serving in the security forces, Laptev continued to work in the field of supplying technology and equipment to Russian government agencies. Since 1998, he has headed the board of directors of the company “Informtekhnika i Svyazok”, which later became part of the “Informtekhnika” group of companies.

According to the Russian opposition publication SOTA , the company produces computer software and hardware. Its major contractors in open databases include the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the St. Petersburg telephone exchange.Read also:
