Often referred to as the “City of Golden Domes,” Kyiv is the mother of Eastern Slavic civilization.
Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv is among the world’s best underrated capital cities you need to put on your bucket list, according to Forbes.
Often referred to as the “City of Golden Domes,” Kyiv is the mother of Eastern Slavic civilization,” reads an article on Forbes.
“In this underrated city you can wander happily for hours without fear of fighting other tourists for space. You can’t miss striking St. Michael’s blue and golden-domed monastery, named in honor of Kyiv’s patron saint. The city is rich in stunning architecture, marvelous churches and authentic Ukrainian eateries. The incomparable, 11th-century UNESCO Heritage Site Kyiv-Pecherska Lavra (Monastery of the Caves) will keep you enthralled for hours with its extensive underground network,” the publication said.
“Looking for a destination that is high on interest but low on tourists? Luckily, there are still plenty of breathtaking destinations that remain stubbornly off most must-see lists. As complaints of over-tourism at some of the world’s top spots continue to grow, there’s never been a better time to go off-grid and visit cities that manage to elude the spotlight despite their many assets,” reads the article, giving a look at just a few capital cities.
In particular, Ottawa (Canada), Zagreb (Croatia), Seoul (South Korea), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Sofia (Bulgaria) are also included in the list of the world’s best underrated capital cities.

Kyiv, Odesa and Dnipro(petrovsk) are my favorites. Mariupol is also ok, but the air and water quality was not so great when i was there. Sadly i’ve never been to Lviv or Kharkiv. Maybe i’ll spend next christmas in Lviv.
Lviv might be the best city of all. Plenty of bars restaurants to visit, and lots of young women to look at. 😂
Oh. Then Suzanna won’t let me go. 😕
She will be babysitting, then you are free as a bird 😂
She would kill him before letting him go to Ukraine on his own. 😂
I wish. Since she has the better job, i will have to take care of the little American-Moldovan terrorist…

Two diapers full of shit during the day, puking on your shoulders, you have a lot in front of you. Not that puking is something new in your life 😂
Only the best for the little devil… 😂

Hahaha! And smiling the whole time 🙂
Lviv is an absolute delight. But for Xmas, you might also try Georgia. On the Black Sea coast in places like Batumi it is still warm and inland cities like Kutaisi and Tbilisi are a nice comfortable temperature.
Then there are the mountain health and ski resorts: as pretty as Switzerland but a fraction of the price.
Near the border with the shithole country I won’t name is the fairytale town of Sighnaghi: a great place to visit.
You surely love Georgia, Scradje. 😉 I may visit next year, but Lviv and Kharkiv are my goal for this year. We will travel with our child this winter, and i first need to figure out how safe Georgia is.
Very safe. As long as you keep away from the putinazi occupied areas of course.
I think Georgia is fairly safe mike, I know someone who goes Skiing there frequently.
I would add Mtskheta and the Alazani valley to that list.
Mtskheta is great! The view from that church on the hill is delightful! And all along the river are picturesque restaurants serving yummy Georgian cuisine.
Alazani Valley I don’t know about, so thanks for the recommendation F1, I will surely check it out!
The Alazani valley is where most of the Georgian vineyards are located. It’s very picturesque, but a car is needed. The place to head for is Sighnaghi, a pretty town located in the valley.
Ah I see! I visited Sighnaghi only once and that was some years back. I would love to go again. I think it would be a wonderful place to have a home!
Here is an image I took from a restaurant in Sighnaghi a few years back. You can see the valley in the background.

I love it!
Yeah, great view, and great food too.
I am of the opinion that Georgian food and wine is as good as anything you can find anywhere in the world and a lot cheaper too. Funnily enough, it has three things in common with its US namesake: fantastic peaches, tasty catfish and hot music. As for the land itself, I believe it is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. That’s why it makes me so mad that savages are squatting on 20% of it. Ditto Crimea of course.
I would swap the catfish for khinkali, I’m not a great lover of fish.
Aah! Khingali is AWESOME! Especially with a side dish of fresh Georgian green herbs! And a bottle of Saperavi.
Lviv is fantastic at Christmas mike, but then anywhere in Ukraine is good at Christmas.
We did 2017 in Kyiv, Lviv and then down to Mukachevo, Berehov and Khust where we stayed in a local guys place. Everywhere we went the kids greeted us with Dobryy den and so on. Local beer was 30p for a litre……..
I can imagine, and i know about a capital that is definitelly overrated:
Stockholm.
Never been there.
🙂
