The number of “assault operations” by the Russian army in Ukraine in July set a record for the third month in a row, according to calculations by the Ukrainian OSINT project DeesState.
According to its data, generals sent the Russian army to assault Ukrainian positions 8,000 times last month. The number of “assault operations” increased by approximately 11% compared to June, 14% compared to May, and 60% compared to the winter and early spring.
On average, Russian units carried out 258 assaults per day, compared to 167 in January-April, according to DeepState calculations. Despite this, Russian troop advances continued to stagnate: last month, they increased the territory under their control by only 88 square kilometers, compared to 57 square kilometers the month before, and ended May with a net loss of 11 square kilometers. For comparison: in January–April, the Russian army captured 126–245 square kilometers, and at the end of last year, about 500 square kilometers.
The Russian military leadership is in a hurry: according to Bloomberg sources close to the Kremlin , General Staff generals promised President Vladimir Putin that they would be able to completely capture the Donetsk region by the end of the year. About 17% of the territory remains outside Russian control, including a 50-kilometer belt of fortress towns—Konstantinovka, Druzhkovka, Slovyansk, and Kramatorsk. Some Russian military personnel, however, consider the timeframes Putin gave unrealistic and believe the war for Donbas will drag on into 2027, Bloomberg sources said.
Even the maximum pace of the Russian offensive, currently recorded by statistics, prevents Putin’s army from capturing the Donetsk region in the foreseeable future, according to military analyst Yan Matveyev. “If we consider the losses the Russian army is suffering for such modest gains, and what is happening in the rear, it becomes clear that this is a one-way road—to the abyss,” he adds.
Despite the stagnant offensive, the massive use of drones, and long-range strikes on Russian territory, according to Bloomberg sources, Putin continues to believe he is winning the war and, instead of making concessions, is only tightening his demands. According to the agency’s sources, Putin believes the United States has violated the Anchorage agreements and is no longer content with just the Donetsk region, but wants full control over the remaining regions of Ukraine annexed in 2022—the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. The Luhansk region is already under almost 100% Russian control.
Meat assaults is the only strategy that the potato generals have. It’s been like this from the first day they entered Ukrainian territory and it’ll be the last thing they do before their cockroach army is defeated.
The number of assaults have increased, so has the number of good russians. 1400 a day is the norm now. It did drop to around a 1000 a day for a few months.
