“Russia’s sharp cut in natural gas volumes in the EU means this is the first month in history that the EU has imported more gas in the form of LNG from the United States than through pipelines from Russia. The fall in Russian supply requires efforts to reduce demand in the EU to prepare for a severe winter,” Birol said.
