Students from Sri Lanka were abused by the Russian occupiers, who kept them locked up, threatened and pulled out their nails for four months.
As reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office, the students studied at the Kupyansk Medical College before the start of the war. Young people lived in the city together with their relatives. In March of this year, seven of them decided to walk to Kharkiv to escape the occupation, but were detained by the Russian military on the way.

It is known that they took the foreigners to the aggregate plant in Vovchansk, where they placed them in cells. The students spent four months there in torture – their nails were pulled out, they were subjected to physical and psychological violence.
On September 12, the students were found by the prosecutor’s office. People were provided with housing and food.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings for violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
