Fish are dying en masse at a reservoir in Kalmykia. The prosecutor’s office explained this by a lack of oxygen

Investigative bodies have begun to check reports of mass fish deaths in the Arshan-Zelmensky reservoir in the Republic of Kalmykia.

Earlier, videos appeared on social networks showing that the entire shore of the reservoir is strewn with dead fish. One of the local residents suggested that this could be caused by harmful emissions from enterprises.

As Interfax was told in the republican prosecutor’s office, the reservoir where the death of the fish was recorded was formed from melt and rainwater. According to the preliminary assessment of the department, the cause of the emergency was the lack of oxygen against the background of a critical drop in the water level.

Either way, it most likely a man-made problem. The Aral Sea has also been nearly wiped-out by humans.
