According to Ukrainian intelligence, Dmitry Shabayev held the position of commander of the 64th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Russian Armed Forces.

Fighters of the 423rd separate unmanned systems regiment “Scythian Griffins” tracked and struck Russian Colonel Dmitry Shabaev, media outlets and the regiment’s official media resource report .

According to the participants in this operation, our intelligence established the identity and tracked the movements of the Russian commander. While traveling in a service car, Shabaev was hit at a distance of about 80 km from the line of combat contact by one of the crews of the UAV of the 423rd separate regiment. The driver and Shabaev himself were seriously injured and were urgently evacuated to one of the military hospitals of the Russian Federation.  

Intelligence data confirms that Colonel Shabaev was hit, who was inspecting one of the Russian command posts in the Zaporizhia direction. If military doctors manage to save him, then given the nature of the injuries received, this colonel’s combat career will likely be over, the 423rd OP of the BfS noted.

“After we became a separate regiment and our combat capabilities increased, I set the guys a strategic task – to focus especially on working out the command posts of enemy brigades and battalions. This is just the beginning, there will be more…” – says the commander of the 423rd OP BpS, Colonel Vitaliy Hersak.

“Scythian Griffins” impressed Russian Colonel Dmitry Shabaev”

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Dmitry Shabayev held the position of commander of the 64th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Russian Armed Forces. Soldiers of the 64th Brigade were among those who committed war crimes in the city of Bucha and the village of Andriyivka, Bucha district, Kyiv region, in early 2022.

The Russian 64th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade is part of the 35th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Federation and fights as part of the Southern Group of Forces of the Russian Federation in the territory of Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
