Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to cut off electricity supplies to Ukraine after January 1, 2025.

In his video address, the politician called the decision to stop the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine an extremely expensive and empty “political gesture” for which the entire European Union will pay, HN.online reports . According to him, Slovakia will think about its reaction to this step:

“If necessary, the government will stop the supply of electricity, which Ukraine desperately needs, or agree on another course of action.”

Fico offers Slovakia as a platform for negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, while accusing Volodymyr Zelensky of “dragging the country into disaster” and calling the United States of America the main beneficiary of the EU’s reduced dependence on Russian gas.

He added that due to Ukraine’s decision, Slovakia will lose money for gas transit and will also face higher gas prices:

“But who [cares] about Slovakia, right, Mr. Zelensky? But when you need something to keep warm in the winter, you just shout stupidly.”

The Slovak prime minister also said that Russia is still ready to continue supplying gas to the EU – this was confirmed to him by Kremlin leader Putin during the meeting.
