The winner of the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, leader of the far-right AUR party, Gheorghe Simion, stated that Ukraine must compensate for the assistance provided by his country, in particular for the Patriot system.

His statement is quoted by Digi24, reports  Censor.NET .

According to him, Bucharest will no longer “give a single cent to another country”, but instead, if he wins the Romanian presidential election, he will “focus on his own population.”

He avoided a clear answer as to whether Romania would vote for new support packages for Ukraine, but said that his position on Russia’s war against Ukraine “is neutrality, not escalation and not arms supply, but joining Trump’s policy.”

“Ukraine needs us, not we need Ukraine, so Ukraine must respect the national and religious rights of half a million Romanians living in Ukraine. And we certainly want compensation for Romania’s participation in military operations,” Simion said.

The far-right Romanian politician noted that the form of such compensation is still up for discussion: it could be reflected in contracts, grain, or other issues.

“But for the Patriot system, gifted by Klaus Iohannis as a national betrayal, and other expenses that Romanians made out of their own pockets, we should get something in return,” Simion added.
